Laudio
I've always lived there and I'm very happy living here. my father was from
My hometown: Santurce
I was born in Bilbao and I have lived there all my life, so it is my actual hometown. Bilbao is located in the north of Spain, is one of largest cities in the Basque Country and also the province of Bizcaya. The city is located on the river Nervion and was founded as a village by Don Diego Lopez de Haro.
This photograph was taken in the centre of the city, where most shops and important buildings are. In my opinion that is the most populous part of the city where everyone goes for a walk.
Another place where you can also find a lot of people is in the "Casco Viejo". There is where most young people meet on saturdays for having a good time and there isn´t a great atmosphere at all.
Bilbao is a very busy city, with a lot of cars and polution. There are also some streets in which you can´t even walk, but that only happens in specific days or times.
Any way, I don´t like Bilbao very much. As I said earlier there is a lot of pollution there. Another reason is that in summer we have to do a 1 hour journey to go to the beach and it is not very comfortable.
Galdakao
Porutgalete, Bilbao
In the picture we can see Portugalete's "Puente Colgante" next to the town hall (the building in blue). These are the most important sites of my hometown. I wasn't born there but all my life has been developed there. I actually live in Barakaldo, but I've spent 14 years living there and most of the people I know is from there.
The history of this village started in the 14th century when it became a village. With the years, it became a very important port and nowadays it has one of the most important monuments which is the transporter bridge, "Puente Colgate".
But the best thing about Portugalete is the festivals. There you can have a good time with your friends and you can taste a typical drink from there which is called "Kalimotxo". This drink is made mixing wine and coke.
Bermeo
This is my hometown Bermeo. I normally don´t live here, but every summer we go there.
Bermeo have always be a sea town since the foundation of Bermeo his history was related to the sea.
As you can se in the picture Bermeo is a beautiful town but it had a lot of problems. one of them was drugs.
Bermeo also was once the capital of Bizkaia but but them Bilbo took the place of the capital. Bermeo in the past was also a very rich town because they were one of the most powerful fishing fleet. There are some rumours that the first persons that discovered was poeple from this area.
As you can see Bermeo is a town of contrast that you all should visit
aLGoRTa, BiLBao
Algorta is my actual hometown. Before living here, I have lived in Bilbao center, where I was born, and then in Leioa until six years ago.
Algorta is a part of Getxo. Apart from Algorta there are other little towns such as Las Arenas and Neguri. One of its atractives are the beaches and the part of the old port. As monument I have to stand out the "Puente Colgante" that is situated in Las Arenas and was declared Humanity patrimony by de UNESCO.
Algorta is the town of Getxo that have more persons. One important thing of Getxo is the public transports. We have the undergroup and buses so we are very communicated with the rest of Bilbao.
The most important buildings are the aixerrota´s mill, the church of "Las Mercedes" and the palace of Lezama-Leguizamon. The aixerrota´s mill is situated in Arrigunaga, the beach of algorta and his name cames because in basque aixe is wind and errota mill.
In general it is a very calm place and very beautiful to live. This and the well communication with other places makes it be a perfect place to lived.
Getxo
Galdakao, Basque Country
Galdakao played an important role in several conflicts as the First Carlist War. With the revolution of industry in 19th century, it also played a big role in industries. During the Civil War, Galdakao remained in the hands of the Republic troops until the 'Cinturon the hierro' was broken. Nowdays, its population is 30.000 inhabitants and the number is increasing.
The best thing you can do in Galdakao is to leave it or to stay in the mountains that surround it, where you can relax and breath fresh air.
